Trying to interpret a mold testing report on your own can leave you confused. Terms like “cladosporium” can appear downright mystifying! Don’t be alarmed, though. In this post, we’ll break down the most prevalent mold testing vocab, so you know exactly what the report means for your property.
- Mold Count. One of the first things you’ll see is the mold count. This refers to the number of mold spores found in the sample. The higher the mold count, the more prolific the mold growth.
- Mold Type. This section of the mold testing report specifies the strain of mold detected. It’s also where you’ll likely come across words like “stachybotrys”.
- Mold Score. The mold score ranks the severity of the mold contamination on a scale of 0 to 5 or using terms like “low,” “moderate,” or “high”. This gives an at-a-glance view of how problematic the mold situation is.
- Raw Count. The raw count shows the actual number of each type of mold spores counted in a mold sample that’s been sent to the lab for testing. The raw count is then extrapolated to represent a cubic meter of air, which gives us another term known as count/m3. This figure shows the number of spores per cubic meter, which allows for standardized comparisons.
- Percentage of the Total. Finally, the percentage of the total reveals the amount of the sampled mold spores belonging to each unique mold type. This gives a proportional breakdown when multiple types of molds are present.
Even with all this bite-sized knowledge, we still understand the importance of giving you a professional rundown of your mold testing results. That’s why we’re happy to discuss each finding with you until you understand all the information we’ve provided in the report.
